State lawmakers will return to the Louisiana State Capitol on Monday March 12th, 2018 to convene a 60-day legislative session. We are fortunate to have many allies among the 144 state lawmakers but our work is not finished.
We are currently developing our legislative key contacts statewide. However, we cannot emphasize enough how critically important it is to be proactive. Luckily, we still have a few months before session starts, and truly have the chance to get ahead of the game.
Money is the lifeblood of politics. The most influential healthcare organizations in the Capitol City all have large PACs and their members donate to their political action committee on an annual basis. The nursing homes, the hospitals, the physicians, the nurse practitioners. In order for LASCA to remain a strong player in the legislative arena, it's equally important that LASPAC remains financially viable.
Your donations allow us to make contributions to members of the House and Senate Health and Welfare Committee, the House and Senate Insurance Committees and the House and Senate Labor Committees.
During the 2016 legislative session, we were proactive and passed into law a statewide ban on “All Products Clauses” in insurance and managed care contracts. Last year, the Louisiana Department of Health proposed over 100 pages of new regulations on ambulatory surgery centers. LASCA was successful in stopping the promulgation of those new regulations and we are awaiting a new set of regulations to be proposed. Those regulations would have been very detrimental to your day to day operations.
For $84 per month, you can spread a $1,000 investment to the LASPAC over twelve payments through PayPal. When it comes down to it, $84 a month is going to protection and advancement of your industry in a way like no other. That’s more than you will be paying for most of your bills!
